Live and let others live

Halos tatlong linggo na din ang nakakaraan mula ng ayusin naming mag-asawa ang mga kalat namin sa bahay.  Medyo madami kaming kalat: mga wrappers ng mga regalo namin sa kasal, mga karton ng mga regalong appliances, iba’t-ibang klase botelya na naipon ko sa loob ng dalawang taon, mga dyaryo at scratch paper.  Maayos naming inilagay sa mga plastic ang mga ito dahil maari pa namang silang ibenta. Matagal silang natambak sa kwarto dahil naman walang dumadaan na mga bumibili ng junks sa Pembo, Makati.  

Isang umaga ng Sabado, nagising kami ng malalakas na sigaw.  "Bote…Dyaryo…", sigaw ng magbobote.  Bilis-bilis akong bumaba upang tawagin sya.  

Nang nasa bahay na namin ang magbobote.  Pinakita ko lahat ang ga-bundok naming mga ibebenta.  "Para akong mag-shopping nito ah", masayang pagkasabi ng magbobote.

"Magkano naman yan lahat?"
"Mga sisenta pesos boss", tantiya sa akin.
"Seventy lang? Gawin mo nang sandaan", sabi ko.  Alam kong higit pa sa sandaan piso ang halaga ng mga basura ko dahil sobrang dami ang mga basura ko: 2 sako ng mga bote, 3 sako ng mineral water na plastik, isat kalahating danggal na dyaryo, at 2 sako na brown na karton.  

Pero naalala ko sabi ng Uncle Dolly ko ng minsang umuwi kami sa Burgos, Ilocos Norte para sa family reunion.

Pinag-uusapan nila noon ang pagtatayo ng isang junk business.  Napagkwentuhan nila na may isang malaking negosyate na ng makitang kumikita ang mga basurero mula sa pangongolekta ng basura sa kanyang mall, pinagbawalan niya ang mga ito upang solohin.  Totoo nga, malaki laki ang kinita ng negosyante na ito.

Pero naalala ko sabi ni Uncle, "Magandang mag-negosyo at kumita ng pera pero dapat bigyan din ang iba ng pagkakataon na mag-negosyo at kumita din."  Sa sinabi ni Uncle, naalala ko ang isang nakapaskil sa palengke namin noong bata pa kami.  Nakalagay ay, "Eat to live not live to eat."

Kailangan nating kumita para mabuhay pero di tayo nagkaroon ng buhay upang kumita lang.  Dapat bigyan din nating ang ibang tao ng pagkakataong kumita sa sarili nilang pagsisikap.

So, ok na ba ang 100? Tingin ko. Live and let others live.
